Based on points earned in the wider tennis circuit (the Grand Slams, the ATP Masters, and other ranking points tournaments, including ATP 500 and ATP 250 competitions to a limited extent), the top seven players are guaranteed to qualify, with up to two Grand Slam winners from lower down the list accommodated next \u2013 if no player made a Cinderella run, then the eighth spot is filled by the eighth-ranked player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-format-of-the-atp-finals\"><strong>What is the format of the ATP Finals?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ATP Finals divide the players into two groups of four, where they play out a round-robing bracket, with the top two advancing to the semifinals, where the winner of one group faces the runner-up of the other for a spot in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All matches are best-of-three, with tie-breaks in each set. Without further ado, here are the most important ATP Finals records for you to keep in mind when evaluating the results and players in this competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsurprisingly, <strong>Novak Djokovic <\/strong>has multiple ATP Finals records to his name. He has the most number of titles with seven, one ahead of Roger Federer. He also has the most number of consecutive titles with four, stretching between 2012 and 2015, and he is the oldest-ever champion courtesy of his 2023 triumph, when he was 36 years and five months of age. However, the Swiss tennis legend also has a handful of standout accomplishments of his own. Namely, <strong>Roger Federer <\/strong>is the all-time match wins leader at the ATP Finals as of 2024, with a win-loss record of 59-17, which amounts to a 77.7% win percentage. Federer also has the most finals appearances at the ATP Finals, with ten, and he has also played in the most editions, with seventeen appearances to his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tennis legends of the past also show up in the historical record. <strong>Ilie N\u0103stase<\/strong>, the 1946-born International Tennis Hall of Fame inductee, holds the best-even winning percentage with an astonishing 22-3 record, an 88% win rate. Ivan Lendl is in second place with a 39-10 record and a 0.796 percentage metric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over in the doubles department, <strong>John McEnroe<\/strong> and <strong>Peter Fleming<\/strong> hold the record with seven titles \u2013 seven consecutive ones at that \u2013 but the other American due of <strong>Mike and Bob Bryan<\/strong> have the most match wins to their name, with 42 and 38 of them, respectively. McEnroe also holds the unique distinction of being the youngest-ever winner in singles and doubles alike, having won both competitions in 1978 at 19 years and 10 months of age. McEnroe would repeat this \u201cdouble crown\u201d accomplishment in 1983 and 1984 as well, but he wasn\u2019t the first to do it \u2013 that distinction goes to a fellow American called <strong>Stan Smith<\/strong> back in 1980.
